Jeannie Nitro was started in 1995 in San Francisco, where designer Liz Tucker resided for 13 years; last year she made her move back to Los Angeles.  Liz and then partner, Kirsten Kempfer, started the line when they could no longer take their heinous hotel jobs. They took the whole D.I.Y route, as all they knew about the "rag trade" was what they liked, and they both knew how to sew.

Tucker basically designs for herself. She likes to think that if she walked into a store and saw one of her pieces it would make her squeal with delight. She doesn't try to follow trends, nor does she particularly care what other designers do or say is "in". She just does what she thinks is either beautiful or fun or both.

Tucker feels her light fetish line shows the flirtatious side of her. More often than not, these dresses are quite short and tend to accentuate the bust, waist, legs or ass. She thinks they have a "good girl/bad girl" quality about them. Speaking of quality, Tucker prides herself on the quality of her line. Though sometimes the prices of her garments may seem a bit high compared to other lines, she feels the quality is unsurpassable and will not compromise it for price.

In her gothic line Tucker does many gowns of velvet and brocades. She pays close attention to detail and adorns every piece with trim and bows. She attributes this to the fact that since she doesn't wear much jewelry herself, she likes to be able to put a dress on and be ready to go, with the exception of hair and make-up of course. Tucker loves fabric and excels in mixing fabrics and contrasting colors in her pieces.
